After the Third round table conferences the British
government passed the government of India act in 1935. The act ended the system
of diarchy and provided for a new system of provincial government based on
provincial autonomy. The congress contested in elections held for the
provincial legislature in 1937. The congress won and formed ministries in seven
out of eleven provinces.
The Indian National Army was initially formed by Indian
prisoners of War. Mostly captured by Japan large number of volunteers from the
expatriate Indian population in Malaya and Burma. Captain Mohan Singh was in
charge of the INA where it was formed.
