Who first produced an electric current?

An Italian doctor, Luigi Galvani first produced an electric current in the 1780s. he hung some frogs legs on iron railings with copper hooks and noticed that the legs twitched. The reason for the twitching of legs was that the metals produced a weak electric current in them. The moisture in the frog’s legs formed a connection between the different metals in the hooks and railings and caused an electric current to flow in the same was as the battery does. The electric current made the muscles of the frogs contract making the legs to twitch. This explanation was put forth by another Italian scientist Volta, who later invented battery. But Galvani never believed this explanation. He thought that animals contain electricity and in this case, the electricity came from the frogs legs.
