Mime is an art of acting in silence. A mime artist does not speak. Instead, his movements, gestures and facial expression show how the artist feels. The artist must control every movement with care in order that the audience can follow the story. Mime was popular in ancient Greece and Rome when mimes were comic plays with absurd characters and were noisy with many acrobatics and juggling.
Mime was popular in the Middle age too. Modern mime acting started in 1800s in France. Mime is used a lot in dancing, especially ballet.
