A bar code is a series of black bars of different thickness with spaces between them. These bar codes can be seen on the packaging of goods, groceries, and also at the back of greeting cards. The width of the white spaces between the lines on a bar code is read as a number by a computer scanner. The number depicts the type of product. The computer quickly matches the current price of the product and prints a description of the goods and its price into the receipt. The bar codes make it possible to keep an accurate analysis of goods sold so that these goods can be restocked before they are sold out.
